The ornate mosaics Ed Lantzer makes all begin with simple wood pieces cut with four different saws to be identical in size and angle.

He is somehow able to create illusions of shapes and figures in his pieces without staining or painting the wood—just working with the natural hue of hardwoods from all around the world. He says 150 different tree species have been used in his work to date.
